My tradition my Blake

On hot days me and my family and friends go to the beach. First we get out our towels and then we hop in the car and pick up our friends. When we get to the beach we go for a swim. Then we relax on the warm sand to dry off. After that we cross the road to the ice cream shop and get an ice cream. I always get cookies and cream and gold rush. It's so yummy!

My Tradition by Olivia

Whenever my family and I go to Hanmer Springs we have the tradition of walking up Conicle Hill, coming down then eating pie at the bakery.
At the start of the walk there's a massive log, Normally we climb and play on it but not with our dog Lila around because she might decide to bolt down the hill. Sometimes we stop on the way up and look at native birds or listen to them. I love taking shortcuts & annoying Dad by tugging on his sleeve on the way up. Usually at the top we take photos with an amazing view for the background. Last time we went a lady took a photo and I still have it at home.
Then we amble down the hill and stride off to the bakery. We choose a pie [normally I get mince and cheese] then we eat them hungrily outside before we leave.
I really like this family tradition and I hope it goes on for a lot longer.

My Tradition by Logan

Each year me and my family go Kaiteriteri and it has an awesome beach. We usually stay for two week's because we camp there.  We try to go to the beach  every day.
There is a lagoon with really really shallow water. I love skimboarding  there. First I throw my board down and chase after it. "There he goes" shouts my dad happily as I skid across the water smoothly
I really like skimboarding there.

The Book by Claudia

The Book
Go and open the book.
Maybe inside there's a man slinking a golden ticket into a chocolate bar wrapper
or a giant poking his hand into an orphanage window,
a girl trapped in a castle traipsing her hair over the sill longing for escape,
or an orange sequinned dress sitting on a boy's shoulders.

Go and open the book.
Maybe a glass slipper is balancing on the step,
Maybe you'll see a young swan being teased by ducks
or a steaming bowl of porridge cooling off in a cottage
or the red cloak of a young girl.

Go and open the book.
If there's a pig, he will be collecting bricks.
Go and open the book.
Even if there's only a title,
even if there's only a page,
even if nothing is there, go and open the book.
At least there'll be something to remember.

Our lunar rover

We had a crazy challenge to build a lunar rover out of Lego. It needed wheels, it needed a flat surface and it a way to pick up rocks. And it was brilliant. When we finished it, we had to take a movie of it in action. By Riley and Leo.

My lunar rover!!!!!!

My lunar rover has 3 parts-the drivers cabin which has got a big cannon on top, a rock carrying trailer and a power source trailer. It fuels up on sausages!!! The fuel tank is 9 meters tall and 1 kilometre wide it can go around the moon 2,000 times without stopping until it runs out of fuel. It is the size of a digger, it has to have a humongous trailer to carry it to NASA(which sent Neil Armstrong and 2 other people to be the first ever people to step on the moon).

Lunar Rovers

Some children have been making lunar rovers that can pick up moon rocks, after reading an advertisement from NASA asking for help! Using the Lego Movie Maker app, the children filmed their lunar rovers in action. Here are some of the finished movies:

Well done, everyone! I wonder what else you would like to explore, create or investigate? Please leave a comment below to tell us.

Daily 5 in an MLE

See how we do Daily 5 in a Modern Learning Environment (MLE). Our goal is self-management, and to show we are great self-managers we fill in a daily timetable and choose when we complete our Daily 5 choices as well as fitness time. It's great having different spaces to work in.

Wonderings using Lego Movie Maker

Here is a quick clip to help you learn to use the Lego Movie Maker app. We can't wait to see your lunar rovers in action, children!

Amazing Spider Art

Over the last 6 weeks we have been designing and constructing spiders from chicken wire and plaster of paris bandaging.  It has taken a lot of effort and time but the results are awesome!
Look at some of our creations in the photos below.

Shaping the chicken wire was a bit tricky!

Adding the legs using wire and pipe cleaners.
